A noncorporeal life-form that a sentient spatial phenomenon capable of literally changing the shape of space. In 2372, the U.S.S. Voyager encountered a distortion ring being in the Delta Quadrant. In an attempt at communication, the anomaly immobilized the ship, disrupted communications and computer control, and caused the ship's physical arrangement to change. Only after the phenomenon was a sentient, intelligent being. During its encounter with Voyager, the distortion ring being deposited some twenty million gigaquads of information into the starship's compumputer memory banks.
