Federation Colony / Expedition Database - Penthara IV Colony

	History:
	Class-M Federation planet with a population of twenty million humans. In 2368. Penthara IV was struck by a type-C asteroid. The explosion created a dust cloud that reflected most of the sunlight that would have reached the surface, causing surface temperatures to drop at an alarming rate. The Enterprise-D attempted to alleviate the problem by using ship's phasers to release subterranean carbon dioxide gas, in the hopes that the resulting greenhause effect would help warm the planet. Unfortunately, the release of gas was accompanied by unanticipated volcanic ash, compounding the initial problem. A desperate attempt was successful in saving the planet's ecosphere when the airborne particulates were vaporized and the resulting plasma energy was drawn out into space by the Enterprise-D's navigational deflector.
