A self-contained society of humans founded in 2168 on planet Moab IV. The colony founders built a sealed biosphere on the planet, in which they
tried to establish a perfectly engineered society. Every member of the colony was genetically designed and trained from birth to perform a specific task. In 2368, the Genome
Colony was endangered by an approaching stellar core fragment that threatened to disrupt the planet. In order to avoid destruction, colony leader Aaron Conor allowed a group
of engineers from the Enterprise-D to assist in fortifying the biosphere. The acceptance of outside aid was strongly opposed by colony member Martin Benbeck, who was greatly
concerned about exposure to outsiders. Benbeck's fears were realized when 23 members of the colony chose to leave with the Enterprise-D, leaving irreparable gaps in the genetic
makeup of the colony. TNG "The Masterpiece Society" ; Star Trek Encyclopedia II
