| U.S.S. | Enterprise | NCC-1701-C | Ambassador | Class |
The fourth Federation starship to bear the name Enterprise. Built at the Earth Station McKinley facility. The Enterprise-C was lost and presumed destroyed near Narendra III in 2344. In that year, this ship, commanded by Captain Rachel Garrett, responded to a distress call from the Klingon outpost on Narendra III. The outpost was under a massive Romulan attack. During the battle, a torpedo explosion opende a temporal rift, and the Enterprise-C was sent some 22 years forward in time. This proved to be a focal point in history. With the Enterprise-C gone from the "normal" timeline, an alternative timeline was formed, in which the Federation and the Klingon empire egaged in an extende war. Once the Enterprise-C returnrd through the temporal rift, the time flow returned to normal, and history was restored to its proper shape. TNG "Yesterday's Enterprise" The Enterprise-C model was designed by Rick Sternbach and Andrew Probert. Interior supervised by Richard James. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |

In 2368, parts of the T'Pau's navigational deflector array were discovered in the wreckage of a Ferengi cargo shuttle. Investigation of the unauthorized parts transfer led to the discovery that the T'Pau had been surreptitiously acquired by the Romulans troops during an attempted invasion of planet Vulcan in 2368. When the attempted invasion was exposed by Ambassador Spock, the Romulans destroyed the ship to avoid capture. TNG "Yesterday's Enterprise" The ship was presumably named after the Vulcan dignitary from TOS "Amok Time". Star Trek Encyclopedia II |

The Stargazer was under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard from 2333 to 2355 on a historic mission of deep-space exploration, prior to his assignment to the Enterprise-D. Lieutenant Jean-Luc Picard was a bridge officer on the Stargazer when its captain was killed. Picard took command of the bridge and was later offered command of the ship for his actions. TNG "Tapestry" During an exploratory mission to Sector 21503, the Stargazer was attacked by Cardassian forces and barely escaped. TNG "The Wounded" During Picard's command, the Stargazer visited planet Chalna in 2354. TNG "Allegiance" The starship was destroyed near the Maxia Zeta star system by what was later learned to be a Ferengi vessel. Years later, the ferengi Bok returnrd the hulk of the Stargazer to Picard as part of a plot to discredit Picard for what Bok believed to be Picard's part in Bok's son's death. TNG "The Battle" Following the loss of the Stargazer in 2355, Picard was court-martialed per standard Starfleet procedure, but cleared of wrongdoing. The prosectur in the case was Phillipa Louvois, with whom Picard had been romantically involved. TNG "The Measure of a Man" The Stargazer was designed by Andrew Probert and Rick Sternbach. The miniature was built by Greg Jein. A smaller model of the Stargazer was on display in Captain Picard's ready room aboard the Enterprise-D. The Stargazer bridge was a re-dress of the Enterprise-D BATTLE BRIDGE: The dedication plaque on the Stargazer bridge bore the motto, devised by episode writer Herb Wright, "To bring light into the darkness". TNG "Elementary, Dear Data" In 2362, a Victory away team was sent to the surface of planet Tarchannen III to investigate the disappearance of 49 Federation personnel. It was not realized at the time that all five members of that team (including Geordi La Forge) were infected with an alien DNA starnd that would compel them to return to Tarchannen III five years later. TNG "Identity Crisis" The Victory was a re-use of the U.S.S. Stargazer model originally built for TNG "The Battle". Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Constellation | NCC-1017 | Constitution | Class |
Commanded by Commander Matt Decker. The Constellation was heavily damaged in 2267 near system L-374 by an extragalatic planet killer weapon. The planet killer destroyed the planets in system L-374, including a planet where the crew of the Constellation had taken refuge. Enterprise personnal programmend the hulk of the Constellation to self-destruct its impulse drive inside the planet killer, destroying the robotic weapon. TOS "The Doomsday Machine" The miniature Constellation, identical in design to the original Enterprise, was an AMT plastic Enterprise model kit, appropriately burnt and corched. The Starship Constellation was presumably replaced by a starship of a new design that was the prototype for the Constellation class, of which Picard's U.S.S. Stargazer was a member. Perhaps the most famous spacecraft in the history of space exploration. Launched in 2245 from the San Francisco Yards orbiting Earth, the Enterprise was first commanded by Captain Robert April, then by Captain Christopher Pike. TOS "The Cage" Superbly wquipped for research in deep space, the Enterprise had 14 science labs. TOS "Operation__Annihilate!" The ship achieved legendary status during the five-year mission commanded by Captain James T. Kirk from 2264 to 2269. Star Trek: The Original Series The original Starship Enterprise was designed by series art director Matt Jefferies. We conjecture that Captain Pike commanded two five-year missions of the Enterprise before Kirk's tenure at the helm, and that Captain Robert April commanded a five-year mission before Pike. This is reasinably consistent with a commissioning date of 2245. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |

| U.S.S. | Yorktown | NCC-1717 | Constitution | Class |
The Yorktown was scheduled to rendezvous with the Enterprise in 2268 to transfer critically neede vaccines for planet Theta VII. The Enterprise was unable to make the rendezvous with the Yorktown until the investigation and destruction of the dikironium cloud creature was complete. TOS "Obssession" The Yorktown was disabled by an alien space probe approaching Earth in 2286. The ship's chief engineer rigged a makeshift solar sail to provide emergency power. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Named for the American aircraft carrier that fought in the Pacific theater during World War II. Yorktown was the original name of Star Trek's spaceship, before the ship was called Enterprise, from Gene Roddenberry's first draft of the series outline written in 1964. Roddenberry repordly suggested that the second Starship Enterprise, NCC-1701-A, launched at the end of Star Trek IV, had previously been named the Yorktown, since it seems unlikely that Starfleet could have built an all-new ship so quickly. If this was the case, the Yorktown may have made it safely back to Earth and been repaired and reanamed, or perhaps there was a newer, replacement Yorktown alredy under construction at the time of the probe crisis. The Essex was caught in an electromagnetic storm in the atmosphere of a Class-M moon of planet Mab-Bu VI. The storm had been caused by noncorporeal criminal life-forms from the Ux-Mal system who had hoped to escape aboard the Essex. The ship was destroyed and all 229 members of the crew were killed. In 2368, the Enterprise-D encountered beings who claimed to be members of the Essex-crew, marooned there since 2167. It was later found that Horizon personnel had left a book entitled Chicago Mobs of the Twenties on the planet, causing severe cultural contamination. The Horizon mission predated the establishment of Starfleet's Prime Directive of noninterference. From a visual-effects stanpoint, the porpose of the roll bar was to make it easier to tell the Ganges from the Yangtzee Kiang in that episode's chase sequence. The Ganges was also seen in DS9 "Q-Less", DS9 "Vortex" and DS9 "The Siege". The Ganges was destroyed by a T’Lani munitions cruiser in 2370. DS9 "Armageddon Game" The ship was named after the river in northern India and eastern Pakistan that flows 1560 miles from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Mekong | NCC-72617 | Danube | Class |
Assigned to Station Deep Space 9. DS9 "Playing God", DS9 "Whispers", DS9 "The Maquis, Part II", DS9 "The Jem'Hadar", DS9 "Heart of Stone". The Mekong was destroyed in the aftermath of the disastrous Cardassian-Romulan attack on the Founder's homeworld in 2371. DS9 "The Die is Cast" The Mekong replaced the Ganges and was first seen in "Playing God". It was named after the river in southeast Asia that flows south to the China Sea. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Orinoco | NCC-72905 | Danube | Class |
Attached to Station Deep Space 9. DS9 "The Siege" The Orinoco was destroyed in 2372 when a Cardassian separatist group calling themselves. The True Way sabotaged the runabout's warp core. DS9 "Our Man Bashir" The Orinoco was first seen in DS9"The Siege" . It was also seen in DS9"Invasive Procedurs", DS9"Shadowplay", DS9"Paradise", DS9"The Maquis, Part II", and the DS9"The Jem'Hadar". The Orinoco was named after the 1700-mile-long river in Venezuela. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Rio Grande | NCC-72452 | Danube | Class |
One of three runabouts originally assigned to station Deep Soace 9. DS9 "Enissary" It was also seen throughout the run of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Members of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine art department, noticing that the Rio Grande seems to be the longest-lived (and therefore the safest) of any of the runabouts assigned to the station, strongly recommend that if you must travel by runabout, you should choose the Rio Grande. (Just a suggestion..). Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Rubicon | NCC-72936 | Danube | Class |
Assigned to station Deep Space 9 in 2371. The ship was anmed by Commander Benjamin Sisko. DS9 "Family Business" Doctor Bashir and Chief O'Brien used the Rubicon to conduct a bio-survey of Merik III just prior to stardate 49066.5. Shortly thereafter, the Rubicon was forced to make an emergency landing on planet Bopak III after a group of Jem'Hadar hit the runabout with a subspace magneton pulse. After being held prisoners by a group of Jem'Hadar led by Goran'Agar, Bashir and O'Brien returned to station Deep Space 9 aboard the Rubicon. DS9"Hippocratic Oath" On stardate 51474.2, the Rubicon was used to investigate a rare subspace sompression anomaly discovered in Federation space. The runabout, piloted by Jadzia Dax, Julian Bashir, and Miles O'Brien, entered the phenomenon and were subjected to severe spatial distortions. The pheomenon miniaturized the ship, reducing the crew to the height of about one centimeter. This extraordinary condition enabled the Rubican crew to play a pivotal role inrecapturing th Starship Defaint from a Jem'Hadar squad. Later, re-entering the anomaly restored the Rubicon to normal size. DS9"One Little Ship" The Rubicon replaced the Mekong, lost in DS9"The Die Is Cast". The Rubicon was named after the river in Italy that was strategic importance to Caesar in 49 B.C.. Star Trek Encyclopedia II , III |
| U.S.S. | Shenandoah | NCC-73024 | Danube | Class |
Assigned to starbase Deep Space 9. In 2374, on stardate 51597,2, Lietenant Commander Worf and Jadzia Dax took the Shenandoah on a mission to extract a Cardassian defector from the Dominion base on planet Soukara. The mission was a failure. DS9 "Change of Heart" On Stardate 51825, Ensign Nog and Jake Sisko took the Shenandoah from Starbase 257 on a mission to deliver an official diplomatic messages to Grand Nagus Zek on Ferenginar. En route the vessel was attacked by Jem'Hadar fighters. The crew abandoned ship and were rescued by the Starship Valiant. DS9"Valiant" Star Trek Encyclopedia III |
| U.S.S. | Volga | NCC-73196 | Danube | Class |
Assigned to Deep Space 9. In 2372, Major Kira, Doctor Bashir, and Keiko O'Brien used the Volga to journey to Torad IV to conduct a three-day botanical survey. On the return trip, the ship encountered an asteroid field which overwhelmed the ship's deflectors. A large rock sideswiped the ship, and O'Brien was severely injured. DS9 "Body Parts" The Volga was to have been used in the massive response to an anticipated Dominion invasion of the Alpha Quadrant in 2373. DS9"By Inderno's Light" Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Yangtzee Kiang | NCC-72453 | Danube | Class |
One of three runabouts assigment to station Deep Space 9. DS9 "Emissary", DS9"Past Prologue" The Yangtzee Kiang was destroyed in a crash on a penal-colony moon in the Gamma Quadrant, Bajoran religios leader Kai Opaka was killed in the crash, although artifical microbes in the moon's environment later restored her to life, for as long as she remained there. DS9"Battle Lines" The Yangtzee Kiang was replaced on Deep Space 9 by the U.S.S. Orinoco. DS9"The Siege" Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Yukon | NCC-74602 | Danube | Class |
Assigned to station Deep Space 9. In 2372, Major Kira and Chief O'Brien used the Yukon to make an inspection tour of the Bajoran colonies along the Cardassians border. DS9 "Sons of Mogh" The Yukon was destroyed by the Starship Defiant in 2373 when a changeling infiltrator hujacked it in an effort to destroy the Bajoran sun with a trilithium explosive. DS9"By Inferno's Light" The Yukon replaced the runabout orinoco, which was destroyed in DS9"Our Man Bashir". The Yukon was named after the river in Nordwest Canada and central Alaska flowing 1,979 miles to the Bering Sea. The Yukon was destroyed in DS9"Inferno's Light". Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. | Defiant | NX-74205 | Defiant | Class |
Prototype for the proposed Defiant class, the second starship to bear the name. The Defiant was officially classified as an escort, but began development in 2366 as a small, highly-powered, heavily-armed starship intended to defend the Federation against the Borg. The Defiant was the first of waht was to be a new Federation battle fleet. Starfleet abandoned the project when the Borg threat became less urgent and after design flaws turned up during the Defiant's shakedown cruise. In 2371, the Defiant was assigned to Deep space 9 to help counter the threat posed by the Jem'Hadar, and was equipped with a cloaking device on loan from the Romulans. DS9 "The Search, Part I" The Defiant was destroyed by Breen forces in late 2375, just before the final battles of the Dominion war. DS9 "The Changing Face of Evil" Several weeks later, when the Defaint-class U.S.S. Sao Paulo was assigned as a replacemant to Deep Space 9, Admiral Ross granted special dispensation to Captain Benjamin Sisko to rename the new ship U.S.S. Defiant. DS9 "The Dogs of War" The Defiant was named after the ship from TOS "The Tholian Web" and was first seen in DS9 "The Search, Part I". The model was designed by James Martin under the direction of Herman Zimmermann and Gary Hutzel. It was built by Tony Meininger. Interior sets supervised by Herman Zimmermann. The Defiant was originally to have been named the Valiant. When the ship was renamed Defiant prior to filming (DS9 "The Search, Part I"), some concept drawings for the ship suggested that it was a Valiant-class vessel. This notion was dropped after a revision of the script for "The Search, Part I" made it clear that the Defiant was the first starship of its type. The defiant's engine room was first seen in DS9 "The Adversary". Star Trek Encyclopedia II , III |

| U.S.S. | Valiant | NCC-74210 | Defiant | Class |
In 2374, the Valiant, under the command of Captain Ramirez, undertook a training voyage to circumnavigate the Federation with a crew consisting of cadets from Starfleet Academy's Red Squad. The ship was caught behind enemy lines when the Dominion war broke out. Shortly thereafter, Rairez and the entire senior staff were killed in a battle with a Cardassian battle cruiser near El Gatark, Cadet Tim Watters subsequently assumed command of the vessel, continuing the Valiant's mission for nearly eight months with a crew consisting entirely of Red Squad members. Under Watter's command, the Valiant was destroyed and nearly the entire crew killed on stardate 51825.4 when Watter took the ship on an impossible mission to single-handedly destroy a massive Dominion battleship. DS9 "Valiant" Valiant was an early name considered for the ship that later became the Defiant on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. At another point, it was also thought that the Defiant might be designed as a Valiant-class ship, until DS9 "The Search, Part I" made it clear that the Defiant was the first ship of her class, making it (and the Valiant) a Defiant-class ship. Some early production ilustartions have been published that erroneously the Defiant as a Valiant-class vessel. Star Trek Encyclopedia III |
| U.S.S. | Arcos | NCC-6237 | Deneva | Class |

| U.S.S. | Excelsior | NCC-2000 | Excelsior | Class |
Under the command of Captain Hikaru Sulu, the ship begann a three-year research mission in 2290, cataloging planetary atmospheric anomalies. Upon successful completion of this mission, Sulu and the Excelsior played a key role in the Khitomer peace conference of 2293. Once the ship was awarded operational status, her registry number was changed to NCC-2000. | U.S.S. | Excelsior | NX-2000 | Excelsior | Class |
The first starship of the Exselsior class, launched in 2284. The ship served under the command of Captain Styles as the testbed vehicle for the unsuccessful transwarp drive development project. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock The Excelsior was designed by Bill George and built at ILM. Although this was never made clear on film, it is generally assumed that the transwarp drive being tested in Star Trek III was a failure, and that the ship was later outfitted with a more conventional warp drive. | U.S.S. | Farragut | Excelsior | Class |
Sabrina Douglas and her friends, Patrick, Jack, and Lauren traveled aboard the Farra gut under false pretenses to station Deep Space 9 in early 2375. DS9 "Chrysalis" This was presumably the namesake of the Farragut on which Kirk served as a cadet (TOS "Obsession"), and perhaps also the Nebula-class ship seen in Star Trek Generations and destroyed in (DS9 "Nor the Battle to the Strong"). "Chrysalis" did not explicity establish this Farragut to be an Excelsior-class ship, but we did see such a ship at Deep Space 9 during the episode, so we are assuming that it was the Farragut. We speculate it was an older ship that had predated the Nebula-Class vessel and had been decommissioned, but was pressed back into service during the Dominion war after the destruction of the Nebula-class ship. | U.S.S. | Hood |
NCC-42296 (NCC-42768) |
Excelsior | Class |
Commanded by Robert DeSoto. Commander William T. Riker served aboard this ship prior to his assigment to the Enterprise-D. TNG "Encounter at Faipoint, Part I and II" The Hood intercepted the Enterprise-D in the Hayachi system to deliver Tam Elbrun and new orders for the Enterprise to proceed to Beta Stromgren for the encounter with Tin Man in 2366. TNG "Tin Man" The Hood was one of the starships sent to the Romulan Neutral Zone border in preparation for a possible battle after Starfleet received warnings of a Romulan buildup at Planet Nelvana II in 2366. The warnings, from Romulan defector Alidar Jarok, were later found to be baseless. TNG "The Defector" The Hood was scheduled to join the Enterprise-D on a terraforming mission to planet Browder IV in 2366. TNG "Allegiance" The Hood fought in the combined fleet of allied Alpha Quadrant forces that invaded Cardassian space at the Chin'toka System in late 2374. DS9 "Tears of the Prophets" This was presumably at least the second Federation starship to bear the name. The Hood was a re-use of the excelsior model built for Star Trek III. Following the Khitomer rescue, Rozhenko adopted a small Klingon chil named Worf, who had been found among the wreckage at Khitomer. TNG "Family" In 2370, Commander Donald Kaplan was the chief engineer of the Intrepid. TNG "Force of Nature" This was presumably at least the second starship to bear the name Intrepid, since an earlier Intrepip was destroyed in TOS "The Immunity Syndrome". There was presumably yet another U.S.S. Intrepid that served as the prototype for the Intrepid-class U.S.S. Voyager. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |

| U.S.S. | Melbourne | NCC-62043 | Excelsior | Class |
The Melbourne was stationed at Starbase 74 in 2364 when the Bynars hijacked the Enterprise-D, but was unable to give chase because of maintenance in progress. TNG "11001001" Commander William Riker was offered command of the U.S.S. Melbourne in late 2366, but hedeclined the promotion, preferring to remain executive officer on the Enterprise-D. TNG "The Best of Both Worlds, Part I" Shortly thereafter, the Melbourne was once of 39 Federation starships destroyed by the Borg in the battle of Wolf 359. TNG "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II" The U.S.S. Melbourne takes its name from the Australian city. There were actually a Nebula-class model, barely glimpsed as a wrecked hulk in the spaceship graveyard from TNG "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II". When the scene was redone three years later for DS9 "Emissary", a dicision was made to instead use the more detailed U.S.S. Excelsior model originally built for Star Trek III. Both models were given the same Starfleet registry number, but since the Excaelsior version was seen faitly cleary on screen, and the Nebula version was not seen well, we now assume that the Melbourne "really" was an Excelsior-class ship. | U.S.S. | Potemkin | NCC-18253 | Excelsior | Class |
Wiliam T. Riker served aboard this vessel prior to his assignments to the Hood and the Enterprise-D, but after the Pegasus. Riker once employed the unconventional tactic of positioning the ship over a planet's magnetic pole, thus making the ship difficult to detect by an opponent's sensors. TNG "Peak Performance" In 2361, as a lieutenant aboard the Potemkin, Riker lead an away team to evacute the science outpost on planet Nervala IV, and subsequently was promoted to lieutenant commander and commended for "exceptional valor" on the mission. It was not realized until later that a duplicate of Riker had been created in a atransporter malfunction during the evacuation. TNG "Second Changes" During the same year, the Potemkin was the last Federation starship to make contact with the failed Turkana IV colony, prior to the Enterprise-D's mission there in 2367. Potemkin personnel were warned by the colony's ruling cadres not to transport to the surface, or they would be killed. TNG "Legacy" The Potemkin rendezvous with the Enterprise-D on stardate 45587 to transfer Dr. Toby Russel to the Enterprise-D. TNG "Ethics" In 2374 the U.S.S. Potemkin was part of the Ninth Fleet headquartered at starbase Deep Space 9, defending the Bajor Sector during the Dominion war. The third starship to bear the name. Built at Starfleet's Antares Ship Yars. The U.S.S. Enterprise-B was launched from a Spacedock orbiting Earth in 2293, with Captain John Harriman in command. Its maiden voyage was planned as a publicity junket consisting of a brief trip out past Pluto. Star Trek Generations The Enterprise-B miniature was a modification of the Excelsior model, originally designed by Bill George for Star Trek III. The Enterprise-B modifications were designed by John Eaves under the supervision of production designer Herman zimmerman. The dedication plaque on the Enterprise-B bridge suggested that the ship had been launched on stadate 9715. We don't know when (or how) the Enterprise-B was retired or destroy, but it had to have happened well before the destruction of the Enterprise-C in 2344. Star Trek Encyclopedia II |

NCC-71807 (NCC-1305-E) |
Galaxy | Class |
Comanded by Captain Donald Varley. A sister ship of the Enterprise-D. TNG "Where Silence Has Lease" The Yamato was destroyed in 2365 by an ancient Iconian computer software weapon that caused the failure of the ship's antimatter containment system, resulting in the ship's explosion and the loss of all hands. The software weapon had also been responsible for a series of other malfunctions aboard the Yamato, including the failure of a shuttlebay force field. TNG "Contagion" Although the Yamato's registry number was established in "Contagion" to be NCC-71807, an earlier, incorrect number was given in "Where Silence Has Lease", when an illusory version of that ship was seen. | U.S.S. | Prometheus |
NX-74913 (NX-59650) |
Prometheus | Class |
Experimental prototype Starfleet vessel. The Prometheus, was designed for deep-space tactical assigments, the first starship of her class. The ship had regenerative shielding, ablative armor, and the ability to travel at warp 9.9, making it the fastest vessel in Starfleet. Holoemitters were installed throughout the ship, allowing the ship's holographic doctor, designated Emergency Medical Hologram-2, to operate in all crew areas. Prometheus was so specialized that only for people in all of Starfleet were trained to operate it. Perhaps the most innovative feature of the Prometheus was its ability to seperate into three independent spacecraft, allowing it to employ a multivector assault mode during acompat situations. During one of the ship's first test flight, a group of Romulans commandeered the starship, killing her Crew. While escaping Federation space, the Pomulans used the ship's multivector assault capability to enable them to elude by a Nebula-class Federation starship. Control of the ship was regained by the on-board Emergency Medical Hologram with assistance from the holographic Doctor from the Starship Voyager. VOY "Message in a Bottle" The prometheus was designed by Star Trek: Voyager senior illustrator Rick Sternbach and rendered as a computer-generated image by Foundation Imaging. The prometheus interis were designed by series production designer Richard James, using re-dressed portions of the re-created Starship Excelsior bridge that James had made for VOY "Flashback", as well as the Voyager sickbay in addition to new sets. Actor Tony Sears, who played the Prometheus officer killed by the Romulans, previously worked in the Star Trek: Voyager art department. The MSD had the registry NX-74913. Star Trek Encyclopedia III |

The Jenolen disappeared in 2294 and was presumed lost. It was mot discovered until 2369 that the Jenolen had crashed into a Dyson Sphere, and that one passenger, Captain Montgomery Scott, had survived for 75 years by suspending himself in an modified transporter beam. Shortly after Scott's rescue, Geordi La Forge and Scott repaired the Jenolen's systems sufficiently to help the Enterprise-D escape from the spere's interior, although the Jenolen was destroyed in the process. TNG "Relics" The Jenolen miniature was a modification of a shuttlecraft built by John Goodsoon of ILM for Star Trek VI. (It was the ship that transported our heroes up to Spacedock)The modifications by Greg Jein added warp engines to the model. Fans have pinted out--quitecorrectly--that it shouldn't have been possible for Scotty and Geordi to be beamed off the Jenolen while that ship's shields were sill up. The Jenolen model has been re-used as a ship visiting Deep Space 9, notably as the transport that brought the two Temporal Investigations agents to the Station in DS9 "Trials and Tribble-ations".On the study model the name is U.S.S. Captain's Yacht NCC-1701-D |
Other |
Large shuttle vehicle carried by Galaxy-class starships. The captain's yacht was intended for transport of dignitaries and other diplomatic funtions. The yacht was a large elliptical vessel that docked at an external port on the underside of the Galaxy-class starship's Saucer Module. | Cousteau |
Captain's Yacht NCC-1701-E |
Other |
Luxury shuttle vehicle carried aboard some Federation starships for the exclusive use of the ship's commanding officer. The captain's yacht was berthed in a special docking port located on the underside of a ship's Primary Hull. Captain Jean-Luc Picard commandeered the Cousteau, the captain's yacht from the Starship Enterprise-E, in 2375 when he defended the Ba'ku planet in defiance of orders from Admiral Matthew Dougherty. The Cousteau was destroyed during the operation. Star Trek: Insurrection The captain's yacht aboard the Soverein-class Starship Enterprise-E was named Cousted, in honor of the French oceanographer. The name, chosen by producer Rick Berman, was inscibed on a dedication plaque in the ship's cabin. The yacht was designed by Herman Zimmerman and John Eaves. Star Trek Encyclopedia III |

Constitution Variant |
Other |
This class seems to be a modified version of the Constitution refit, with nacelles turned by 90° and additional large hatches in the saucer edge. TNG "Boody Trap" A model looking like this was seen in Leah Brahms's office in TNG: "Booby Trap". There is no evidence whether such a ship is actually supposed to exist, or if it was only a failed attempt to build a model of the Constitution class - maybe Leah had the same hobby as Picard when she was a child. Whoever built this model in the 20th century, didn't have much trouble to change the nacelle orientation, and the additional (shuttlebay?) hatches are actually the missing window insets of the AMT model. Excelsior Study 4 Nacelles |
Other |
Nothing is known about this starship class whose construction seems to date back to the beginning of the 24th century or earlier. TNG "Unification" ; TNG "Best of Both Worlds, Part II" 1) This is one of three or four study models for the Excelsior, built in the course of the pre-production of "Star Trek III". The model briefly appeared on screen in TNG: "Best of Both Worlds". The real starship probably isn't related to the Excelsior class. It is named "Excelsior study" in this list only due to the lack of a proper name. 2) The model has a Constitution-refit type saucer and four nacelles which are connected by what looks like an extendable neck. Since this would make no sense technically, it is a better suggestion that, unlike it was the original intention, this is a cargo ship, and containers can be mounted to the underside of the connecting spine. | Intrepid Prototype | Other |
The Intrepid-class USS Voyager is (obviously) the series ship for Star Trek: Voyager. The ship, designed by Rick Sternbach, is intended to look faster and more powerful thenyour typical starship. This really is the most well documented ship. We all know the length (344m), how many decks it has (15), and every bit of surface detail has defined purpose. Even the MSD is flawless (the Ent-E MSD has incorrectly placed torpedo launchers and tractor emitters). The only real problem with Voyager is the length of the warp nacelles. Not only are the nacelles very relatively short, but it makes the ship look unbalanced. I can't think of any other ship that has such short nacelles compared with its body or saucer. Why was it designed like this? Maybe, it was intended to make the ship seem more advanced, but it does look strange. The concept (rejected) Voyager design had a far more consistent shape. It actually looked similar to the USS Dauntless from 'Hope and Fear'. Don't get me wrong, I have tremendous respect for Sternbach, but I reckon he erred here. The Intrepid/Constitution Variant in the DS9 Tech Manual looks incredibly similar to the concept Voyager. Maybe the variant and the concept are one and the same design/ship. Hmmm... | Intrepid-Constitution Kitbash | Other |
This starship is obviously another Intrepid variant (besides the Yeager class). 1) This nameless starship class depicted in the DS9 Technical Manual has not been sighted yet. The warp nacelles on the image are significantly oversized (if they are from the Considering the many errors in this book, it is (hopefully) possible that the ship actually does not employ Constitution-class nacelles at all, but a newer type. 2) It is very likely that the image is actually supposed to depict the Voyager study model built by Rick Sternbach which has the same overall structure with a pointed saucer, Danube-class nacelle struts and angular nacelles. The main differences are that the main hull of the Voyager study model rather resembles that of the Prometheus and the nacelles are quite different than those of the Constitution, aside from many details that would be wrong. | Kitbashed Constitution | Other |
It was not yet been seen on any of the series. This ship is composed of Constitution-class components. The engineering hull is omitted, and the two warp nacelles are turned upside down and directly attached to the "neck". This kitbashed ship is depicted in the DS9 Technical Manual, however, it has not yet been identified on screen. It is odd that this ship is obviously in service by 2374, while the original Constitution class may have been decommissioned some 75 years ago. Still, it is the only consistent image among the six new ship designs presented in the above book. The ST DS9 TM called "Constitution-Class Starship Variant". | U.S.S. | Curry | NCC-45617 | Kitbashed Excelsior | Other |
Virtually nothing is known about this ship which is composed of Excelsior-class components and Constitution-class warp nacelles. DS9 "A Time to Stand" 1) This ship could be seen in DS9: "A Time to Stand", supposedly named USS Curry (for Dan Curry, DS9 VFX staff), while its class is unknown. Its unofficial nickname is "Shelley" class (Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein) - an obvious choice. 2) The ship is depicted in the DS9 Technical Manual too, however, the official image is almost completely wrong. The warp nacelles are turned by 90 degrees, there seems to be no connection at all between saucer and engineering hull, and the bow shuttlebay is missing. The model is obviously created from an Excelsior and a (larger scale) Constitution kit, so the nacelles are larger than the secondary hull which looks incredibly silly. I deliberately decreased the Constitution nacelles to the correct size relative to an Excelsior. 3) Please ask the DS9 modelers what the ship's strange structure is useful for. My best guess: It looks like the saucer and warp nacelles form a fully operational starship, whereas the bottom hull possibly serves as a large cargo- or shuttlebay and is supposed to be abandoned in emergency situations. | Kitbashed Excelsior 2 | Other |
It was not yet been seen on any of the series. Nothing is known about this strange ship class, which incorporates several Excelsior-class components. This kitbashed starship (inofficial nickname: "Medusa" class) is depicted in the DS9 Technical Manual. It has not been sighted yet, and we may still hope that this will never happen. Apart from being extremely ugly, the saucer in the depiction is 15% oversized compared to the warp nacelles, so no reliable length can be calculated.
