| U.S.S. Archon | NCC-189 |
|
Early Fedration starship that disappeared at planet Beta III in the year 2167.
The ship was pulled from orbit by a planetary computer system called Landru. The surviving crew members were absorbed into Beta III
society, becoming known as the Archons. TOS "Return of the Archons" We speculate that the Archon was a daedalus-calss starship, since it was contemporary with the U.S.S. Essex from TNG "Power Play". Star Trek Encyclopedia II |
| U.S.S. Carolina | NCC-160 (Text) NCC-235 (Picture) |
|
The Carolina apparently sent an emergency signal to the Enterprise on stardate
3497. The transmission turned out to be a hoax, a Klingon attempt to prevent the Enterprise from returning to planet Capella IV.

| U.S.S. Essex | NCC-173 |
|
Commanded by Captain Bryce Shumar, and under the sector command of Admiral Uttan
Narsu at Starbase 12, the Essex was reported lost in 2167. The Essex was caught in an electromagnetic storm in the atmosphere of a
Class-M moon of planet Mab-Bu VI. The storm had been caused by noncorporeal criminal life-forms from the Ux-Mal system who had
hoped to escape aboard the Essex. The ship was destroyed and all 229 members of the crew were killed. In 2368, the Enterprise-D
encountered beings who claimed to be members of the Essex-crew, marooned there since 2167. These beings were in fact the UxMal
criminals, who sought to escape by commandeering the Enterprise-D.

| U.S.S. Horizon | NCC-176 (Text) NCC-173 (Picture) |
|
One of the first deep-space exploratory vessels launched by the United Federation
of Planets, the Horizon visited planet Sigma Iotia II in 2168. The Horizon was destroyed shortly thereafter, transmitting a
distress call by conventional radio that did not reach Federation space until 2268. It was later found that Horizon personnel had
left a book entitled Chicago Mobs of the Twenties on the planet, causing severe cultural contamination. The Horizon mission
predated the establishment of Starfleet's Prime Directive of noninterference. TOS "A Piece of the Action" The class and registry designations of the Horizon are conjectural, but a desktop model bearing that name and number has been seen as set decoration in Sisko's office on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Star Trek Encyclopedia II The Picture in the Star Trek Encyclopedia are wrong, the Model has the Number 176. |
