Type of Federation starship in use in the late 24th century. The U.S.S. Thunderschield was a ship of the Akira class.
Star Trek: First Contact
Several Akira-class vessels fought in the combined Alpha Quadrant fleet that invaded Cardassia in late 2374, and three were destroyed by Cardassian orbital weapon plattforms at the Chin'toka Sytem.
DS9 "Tears of The Prophets"
The Akira-class starship was designed by Alex Jaeger at ILM. It was rendered as a computergenerated visual effect. Named for the animated fantasy film.
