Chaffee	DEFIANT SHUTTLECRAFT 1		The Chaffee was a Federation Chaffee-type shuttlepod that was in service to Starfleet in the latter half of the 24th century, attached to the USS Defiant. In late 2374, Benjamin Sisko, Miles O'Brien and Julian Bashir used the Chaffee to enter the atmosphere of a Class L planet to rescue Lisa Cusak. The use of the pod was preferred because its power systems did not utilize antimatter, and made it possible for the pod to survive travel through the exotic energy field surrounding the planet. DS9 "The Sound of Her Voice" The Chaffee was designated as Defiant shuttlecraft 1. The shuttlepod was named for astronaut Roger B.
