  Modified photon torpedo casing
Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual
An instrumented sensor probe similar to a photon torpedo designed for extended flight at high warp speeds. Although barely large enough to hold a person, a class-8 probe was modified to carry a single passenger when Special Federation Envoy K'Ehleyr was launched in the coffinlike missile for emergency transport to the Enterprise-D in 2365.
TNG "The Emissary" Star Trek Encyclopedia II
This model was featured during the second season in two different episodes: "The Schizoid Man" and "The Emissary". In the first, it was used to represent a casket holding the body of the deceased Dr. Ira Graves (William Morgan Sheppard), Data's "grandfather". As Dr. Graves is sent into outer space, this model was used to show it flipping through the atmosphere. The model was then adapted for "The Emissary" and used to represent a probe beamed up and carrying K'Ehleyr from Starfleet Command who has been sent to warn the Enterprise of a ship carrying Klingons ready for battle. The model is made of grey plastic with a long handle for the special effects team to hold and move the pod. The model has had extra components added, such as panels and stickers to distinguish it from the earlier version. It also has a small window added to hide the photograph of the deceased Dr Graves.
