History:
  U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D crewman Alfonse D. Pacelli served aboard the Syracuse prior to his assignment to the Enterprise, but after his posting to the U.S.S. Philadelphia.
Probably named for the Greek city that was home to the ancient mathematician Archimedes, and was a scene of fighting during the Peloponnesian and Punic Wars. The Syracuse was one of several ships that were noted in personnel file displays in "Eye of the Beholder."
