	The USGS Powell was a 24th century starship registered for Federation travel. Under the command of Captain S. Sondheim, this vessel visited Hispaniola Minor in 2370. From there, it was due to arrive at Deep Space 9 on stardate 47550.5. DS9 "Whispers" The Powell was never mentioned or shown, it was simply listed in an okudagram graphic of an arrival roster on a viewscreen. The Powell is most likely named after John Wesley Powell, who led geologic expeditions in the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon and upper sections of the Colorado River after the Civil War, and served as the second director of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from 1881 to 1894 and developed water policy for the American West.
