Vaadwaur
History:
The version of history that the Vaadwaur, once in control of a vast territory, tell the Voyager crew
is, as Janeway puts it in [Dragon's Teeth]: "You told me the Vaadwaur were a culture of merchants and scientists who expanded their
knowledge by using the subspace corridors to travel to other worlds. You were the envy of hundreds of species, some of whom eventually
wanted the corridors for themselves. ... Let me give you another version of events. The Vaadwaur were an aggressive culture who expanded
their territory by using the corridors to attack other worlds, until some of those worlds banded together to defend themselves and put an
end to the Vaadwaur threat once and for all." Attacked by that alliance of worlds the Vaadwaur, with their world in ruins from massive
aerial bombardment, put a troop battalion into stasis with their spaceships in a vast chamber several hundred metres underground. The
plan was that after 5 years the battalion would come out of stasis, and with their battle fleet retake their territory. But things went
wrong and 892 years later one of their number, Gedrin, was revived by Seven of Nine not acting under orders. Persuaded by Gedrin that
they would be helping a peaceful civilisation to rebuild, Voyager's crew revived nearly 200 Vaadwaur troops before Neelix uncovered the
Vaadwaur's true past. Voyager's alliance with the Vaadwaur was broken when the Vaadwaur commander Gaul launched an attack on Voyager.
Voyager escaped while the Vaadwaur and an enemy race the Turei attacked each other.
